Firefighter arrested for embezzlement

By: The Californian -

A firefighter-paramedic has been arrested on suspicion of embezzlement and other felonies, according to authorities.

Kyle Kenneth Smith of Phelan was arrested Friday by Riverside County Fire Department officers, Capt. Julie Hutchinson stated in a press release.

Smith was booked on suspicion of grand theft, embezzlement and embezzlement of public property, a county jail official said. He allegedly stole fuel cards, Hutchinson said.

Smith worked for the fire department for three years. His arrest caps a lengthy investigation by fire department law enforcement officers to see who was responsible for the theft, Hutchinson said.

Smith was released after posting bail of $5,000, a jail spokesman said.
